Roosevelt Tram Resumes Service
September 1, 2006 - 2:42pm
The Roosevelt Island Tramway resumed service early this morning between the island and Manhattan. The only commuter aerial tram service in the country was suspended in April when the system lost power leaving about 80 New Yorkers dangling above the East River for hours. The system was repaired and upgraded with a backup drive, new wiring, painted cabins, and emergency kits including blankets, light sticks, and a toilet.—Mike McPhate
