Meet Mo

By Deeqa Rafle

Meet Mo! A loveable dog who knows how to inspire and share distinctive knowledge with his young audience. The creators of the Mo’s Nose series are two friends by the name of Margaret Hyde and Amanda Giacomini. Maragaret, a mother of four, had this idea of publishing Mo’s Nose when her best friends dog Mo came to her in a dream. From there she has been an Academy Award nominee for film-making, photographer, publisher and writer.

Mo’s Nose helps children to have an open mind, whilst catering to their sense of smell. Margaret uses aroma-therapy tested scents to help children calm down and rest. Her books such as Mo’s Smells Sweet Dreams uses a “Press 2-smell” feature which helps readers and audience to use their sense of smell to discover the adventures that Mo encounters.

Mo and his friends Kiki, Lucky, Nabi and Gus all find themselves in friendly quarrels. Kiki is Mo’s intelligent and poised friend who knows what to say and when to say it. Her gracefulness really balances out Mo’s natural instictive behaviour. Lucky is Mo’s puppy-friend who is quite adventurous. Mo is somewhat of a role model to Lucky, who teaches and influences him. Nabi and Gus are Mo’s friends who help Mo search for things high and low. Since Nabi is a butterfly and gus is an insect, they both can aid Mo in his searches.

Margaret has publsihed many books in this Mo’s Nose series such as: Mo Smells Sweet Dreams,Mo Smells Christmas, Mo Smells the Holidays, Mo Smells Pink, and much more! All of these stories use the scented feature, so children can smell scents to corresponding holiday’s such as Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Margaret has been awarded many literary honor’s such as Moonbeam Children’s Book Award for Mo Smells Red in 2008, and again in 2009 for Mo Smells Green. She was also awarded the Mom’s Best Award in Literary Gold for Mo Smells Green and Mo Smells the Holidays in 2009. Also Mo’s Nose has been featured in publications such as Life and Style Magazine, where celebrities dish on how amazing these scentsational journies are, and how their children love it.

Also, a percentage of all proceeds from the Mo’s Nose Scentsational Storytime series goes to aid a selected nonprofit partner. Furthermore, with each Mo’s Nose purchase, customers are given a recycled paper pencil as a gift. This helps to reduce Mo’s Nose carbon footprint, and to teach children at a young and early age just how important recycling is.
