Bush's U.N. Speech Implores Muslims
September 19, 2006 - 5:53pm
President Bush spoke directly to the peoples of several Muslim nations, praising what he described as their rich pasts and brave people. He targeted his sharpest words at Iran’s leaders who he accused of pilfering their nation’s abundance in pursuit of terrorism and nuclear weapons. He concluded, “Freedom, by its nature, cannot be imposed -- it must be chosen. From Beirut to Baghdad, people are making the choice for freedom.” He added, “America has made its choice: We will stand with the moderates and reformers.”—Mike McPhate
