City Educators Reach Agreement
December 15, 2006 - 10:50am
An estimated 78,000 members of the United Federation of Teachers ratified a new two-year contract yesterday, voting to approve the deal 9-1. The contract promises educators in the public school system a 7.1 percent salary increase, which, according to the teachers’ union, brings the total raises given between 2002 and 2009 to at least 40 percent.
“We're giving teachers the fair compensation and raise they deserve while recognizing their efforts in the historic push to reform our schools and bring accountability back to the education system,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a statement.
