There is no meal more quintessentially New York than a good steak dinner. And there are few steakhouses in New York who provide the level of food and service like BLT Steak. And yet, there is more to this restaurant than the thrill of eating a perfectly prepared steak. After a visit there recently, it became abundantly clear that the restaurant has an atmosphere that speaks of the monied class and an attentiveness of service which is professional without being intrusive.

A four-hour flight landed me in Aruba, an island in the Southern Caribbean known for its trade winds, casinos and white sand beaches. Away from the hustle of New York, I felt an instant calm the minute my feet touched the buttery soft sand of Palm Beach on the western coast where Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino was located. I have always found the beautifully blue Caribbean and its dots of postcard-perfect islands to be among the most breathtaking destinations in the world, with the added convenience of proximity to New York making the trip even more desirable. What keeps me searching, however, for alternatives are the throngs of tourists and over-developed commercialism found on so many of them. Having recently returned from back-to-back Caribbean visits, these thoughts are foremost in my mind as I write about one of them.
